Some good info here.

I think that a product will only be truly successful if it solves a problem that a group of people have. Otherwise it will be treated as somethings that just "new and cool" and your audience will quickly lose interest.

I've seen this happen many times when new startups try to be a "This" for "That", for example a Groupon for Vacations. They think that because a product is popular with one group of consumers that it will immediately be popular with another. Most times this logic tends to fall flat.
